It’s 2013, but women are still nauseatingly underrepresented on podiums. In this season’s schedule at the Metropolitan Opera, the only female conductor listed is Jane Glover, conducting The Magic Flute. The production is also special because the director is a woman, one of very few in the lineup this season.
Let’s all go! Let’s tell the Met we want to see women on the podium! Tickets go on sale to the general public on August 11.
BTW, the new production of Eugene Onegin has a woman making her directorial debut at the Met. She is, like The Magic Flute‘s Julie Taymor, one of few women directors.
